At NCTL, we continuously seek out and study schools that have achieved impressive results by expanding their school day and/or school year to support student learning. Successful expanded learning time schools redesign, strengthen and expand the school day/year by adding at least 300 hours above the standard 6.5-hour 180-day school schedule. High-quality expanded-time schools leverage the redesigned schedule to incorporate seven essential elements into the school day, including focused school-wide goals, rigorous academics, differentiated student supports, frequent data cycles, engaging enrichment classes, targeted teacher development, and enhanced school culture.
