Massachusetts Action Alert: Contact Your State Representative Today to Increase ELT Line-Item

In the budget recently released by the House Ways and Means Committee, the House proposed to level-fund the MA Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Initiative at $13.9 million for fiscal year 2013. We know that the fiscal climate remains difficult and we are grateful for this show of support for the ELT Initiative and 19 expanded-time schools in nine communities across the state. However, more than 30 schools have expressed interest in redesigning their school calendars and broadening opportunities for students through the ELT Initiative this year. Representative John Mahoney (D-Worcester) has filed an amendment (#201) to increase the funding for the ELT line-item (7061-9412) by $1 million, matching Governor Patrick's proposed funding.

These schools, teachers, students, and communities need your help to secure the support and funding to allow them to be innovative with their school day and provide students and teachers with the time they need to succeed. Please call your state Representative today and ask them to support Representative Mahoney's  amendment for increased funding for ELT in the House  budget.
