Michael Selkis
Michael Selkis is the director of school & district support in New York for NCTL. Michael is a lifelong educator and is a staunch advocate for all children. Michael has a vast array of educational experience. He spent time in Poland with the Peace Corps and also lived in Mexico for two years, teaching English and directing an English school. He taught in Raleigh, NC and San Francisco, CA and has been a school administrator in Cambridge, MA, San Francisco, CA and NY. Most recently, Michael worked for the NYCDOE in the Teacher Effectiveness Pilot and he also served as the Director of National School Development and Support and as a Network Leader for 25 NYCDOE public schools for FHI 360. He has served as a guest speaker and panelist at many national and local symposiums and has developed a new systemic reform model that creates a symbiotic relationship among data collection, teacher effectiveness, student interventions and the Common Core that is designed to improve student outcomes. All of his current and past work has been and is rooted in the simple belief that all children deserve the opportunity to be successful and that as stewards of the future, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we achieve that goal. Michael received his B.A. in political science at St. Michael’s College. Additionally, he earned Master’s degrees from Quinnipiac University, Harvard University, and Columbia University and is currently finishing his doctorate in Urban Education School Reform and Policy at Teachers College, Columbia University.
